You may want to have a second or even third choice in mind when you go to the Window. Make sure you choose a country that you will be able to acquire ample information on. You may not choose any North American country.

2) Government PROJECT

In pairs (or solo) you will be establishing a government system for the following scenario:
  • Scenario:

  • It is the year 2024, WWIII has devastated the Earth, as we know it.  It is the belief of scientists from across the globe that the Earth cannot sustain life in its current state. The need to find an inhabitable planet or moon has led several sets of starships to the far reaches of the universe to establish and maintain human existence. (Don't get hung up on the limitations of time or space travel...just go with it and have fun. :)

  • You and your partner are co-captains aboard the starship "Interpellation." This is the flagship leading a fleet of three other starships toward a newly discovered planet, on which it is hoped,  life will be sustainable.  Upon landing, the following items must be clearly established between the 4 starships, {each of which carry 225 passengers each, including crew, medical staff, a small police force, teachers, scientists, agriculturalists, philosophers, politicians, and computer technicians.}

  1. Name your planet, develop an extensive description of its land formations, probable resources, possible dangers, etc. While this needs to be creative, it also needs to be realistic. It is a fine line you must walk.

  2. Evaluate the situation you find yourself in and use what you have learned about successful and unsuccessful governments to CREATE the ideal government system for this situation. If done properly, this will take a reasonable amount of brainstorming.

  3. Identify or name the government that you are creating and explain why you believed this was the best choice.

  4. Identify the main inspiration your government is being modeled after. If this is more than a country or system, so be it. Just make sure it makes sense.

  5. After creating your government, determine how it will be run and maintained. This means who are the leaders? How do they become leaders? How are laws put in place? Who maes them? How are they enforced? How are all the other aspects of life addressed in this new government? Explain all of this.

  6. Identify a set of no less than 10 laws necessary for the maintenance of a successful, productive society. Explain why you believed these were the 10 most important laws to include in your society.

  7. Create a new "national flag" that represents the new government you have created.

  8. All of the above must be included in your final presentation (media of your choosing) to be presented to the class on or before

  9. ---- Date to be determined.
